S3556, P702. I/V in TERTIVS. Worn with the reverse worse. This is the Peck plate coin. Attempts to trace its provenance have not been conclusive. Initially all bar three sources used by Peck were eliminated - West, Firth or P G Smith. However, the Circular for Feb.1979 lists an example of this type as ex-Peck and which more adequately fits the description of this coin than that given in the Nicholson sale for lot 140 which was described as ex-Peck and the timing of the Circular listing fits well with Nicholson's purchase of it in early 1981. It is therefore likely that this is in fact an ex-Peck piece as well as ex-BN 141. Very rare. (1728)

Anne double obverse trial. The edge is inscribed DECVS.ET.TVTA[N over M]NNO.REGNI.DVODECI+.+. Similar to P710, but this legend not recorded by Peck. Dr Nicholson's remarks about this type in his collection notes that Peck would have been better giving two varieties - Edge lettered or plain, is an idea with which we wholeheartedly concur. Ex SNC 12/1994 no.8191 (where listed as P709) & Dr B Nicholson 156, collection sold by Colin Cooke 3/2004 (where described as P710). Dr Nicholson assumed this was the Baldwin piece listed by Peck, but a comparison with that coin which was illustrated in the Clarke-Thornhill sale catalogue at Glendining in 1937 clearly shows it not to be so. The edge reading is almost certainly unique. (1634)

P1379. Bronzed restrike proof by Taylor. A mistrike, as the collar has obviously opened during the strike (leaving parallel lines on the edge) and the flan rotated to give a double strike clearly seen in the reverse legend, the two exergue lines and Britannia detail. Otherwise FDC. (1468)

S3781, P1376(var). No berries. This coin has a ball below on the trident shaft below the forks. To date, a search for another example from this reverse die has not revealed any further examples, so is presumably ext. rare. Previously cleaned, it is now retoned. (1640)
