Florin

The florin or two shillings was introduced as part of the intended decimalisation of British currency in the late 1840s. A number of pattern florins were made in 1848 and from these designs an obverse and reverse were chosen. The result was the 'Godless' Florin, so called because DEI GRATIA was not included in Victoria's titles. The last florin was struck in 1970 for the proof set.
